About this Project
Project Background
We were selected to retrofit a fire suppression system for a change of use project in Mold, Flintshire. The property, which had been repurposed for a new use, lacked the necessary infrastructure for a traditional mains-fed sprinkler system due to insufficient water flow and limited space for a storage tank and pump. Our team was tasked with designing and installing an alternative solution that would provide effective fire protection while accommodating the building’s limitations.
Project Scope
The project involved retrofitting a fire suppression system that would provide reliable fire protection throughout the property without the need for a bulky water storage tank or additional infrastructure. Our solution was to install a state-of-the-art fire mist system, offering a compact and efficient alternative to traditional sprinkler systems.
Challenges
- Limited Water Supply: The property did not have sufficient water flow to support a standard mains-fed sprinkler system.
- Space Constraints: There was no available space to install a water storage tank and pump, making a traditional solution impractical.
- Aesthetic Considerations: The fire suppression system had to be installed in a way that minimized its impact on the building’s aesthetics and functionality, preserving the design and usability of the space.
Solution
To overcome these challenges, we designed and installed a fire mist system, which provides comprehensive fire protection using significantly less water than conventional systems. Our approach included the following steps:
- Compact Pump and Pressurized Fire Mist System: Instead of a traditional sprinkler system, we proposed a fire mist system that utilizes a high-pressure pump to generate a fine water mist. This system is highly efficient, requiring less water and no bulky tank or pump, making it ideal for properties with limited space and water supply.
- Strategic System Design: Our experienced designer carefully planned the fire mist system to ensure optimal nozzle placement throughout the property. This design provided full coverage in all critical areas, ensuring effective fire protection while keeping the system as unobtrusive as possible.
- Aesthetic and Functional Integration: We focused on minimizing the system’s visual impact, installing the fire mist nozzles in a way that blended seamlessly with the property’s interior design. This approach allowed us to preserve both the aesthetic appeal and functionality of the newly repurposed building.
Results
The retrofitted fire mist system was successfully installed, providing comprehensive fire protection without the need for a water tank or high water flow. The system is discreetly integrated, ensuring that the building’s design and functionality were not compromised.
The client was pleased with the outcome, particularly noting how the fire mist system met their fire safety needs while overcoming the space and water supply limitations.
Key Features:
- Compact and Efficient System: The fire mist system requires significantly less water and space than traditional sprinkler systems.
- Custom Design: Nozzle placement was carefully planned to provide full coverage with minimal impact on aesthetics.
- Seamless Integration: The system was installed with a focus on maintaining the building’s design and usability.
