Fighting fires in tall, multi-floor buildings is incredibly challenging, so ensuring a reliable, accessible and effective water supply is vital. Traditional firefighting equipment alone cannot provide sufficient pressure to tackle fires on upper floors, which can hinder suppression efforts and compromise the safety of occupants and firefighters.
A dry riser is a vertical piping system with dedicated outlets at each floor level that provides a reliable water supply. The system gives firefighters rapid access to pressurised water in the event of an emergency. Dry risers have become a critical component in saving lives and property in high-rise residential buildings.

As specialists in residential and domestic fire protection systems, we add value by offering a complete end-to-end service that includes consultancy and technical support, design, installation and ongoing aftercare. We are committed to developing dry riser systems that safeguard lives and assets, regardless of the complexity of the building’s infrastructure. We take pride in delivering excellent customer support through the delivery of comprehensive site surveys, detailed design proposals, and responsive communication at every stage of the project.
Dry riser systems are a critical safety feature for high-rise properties. The system consists of a series of vertical pipes with strategically placed water outlets on each floor of a building. During a fire emergency, firefighters quickly and conveniently connect their equipment directly to the outlet, enabling them to access water wherever needed within the building. These systems remain empty until needed. Pumping water into a ground-level inlet activates the system, delivering a powerful, efficient and reliable supply to each outlet. This rapid response significantly reduces risk to life and property damage.
A dry riser system consists of vertical galvanised steel pipework with outlet valves strategically placed on each floor. The project’s aesthetics determine whether we box or paint the pipework to match the building’s decor.
As stipulated by the British Standard BS 9990:2015 and the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, regular inspections and maintenance of dry riser systems are legally required. The law requires a visual inspection every 6 months and a pressure test every 12 months. During the 6-month inspection, we check for visible damage to pipework and components. The pressure test involves pressurising the system to check for leaks and ensure it is fit for purpose. Upon completion of the pressure test, we issue a dry riser test certificate, which is valid for one year.
Most building insurance policies could be invalid without a valid dry riser test certificate. We send timely reminders to help you manage your dry riser maintenance schedule. By following a regular schedule, you will ensure compliance and maintain your insurance coverage without risk.
