Across Wales and England, the installation of automatic fire suppression systems is required by law in new and converted residential properties. This regulation, introduced in 2016 as part of the Domestic Fire Safety Regulations, applies to houses and flats, care homes, rooms for residential purposes, and registered group and sheltered housing. Wales was the first country in the UK to make these systems mandatory in residential properties, reflecting the Welsh Government’s commitment to improving public safety. This proactive approach aims to help prevent fire-related injuries and save lives in across UK homes.
